Reassurances To Fans
Captain Song Bahanag says the Indomitable Lions are not afraid of the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire.
In a bid to inform the national and international media on the activities of the National Football team of Cameroon, the Cameroon football Federation, FECAFOOT, yesterday organised a press conference at the Lions camping site in Lisses, France. The pre-match conference brought together just a handful of journalists from Cameroonian press organs and foreign media houses. Present to answer questions from the press were: Coach, Artur Jorge, team captain, Song Bahanag, newcomer Vincent Pericard, defender Eric Matoukou and FECAFOOT representative, David Mayebi.
According to captain Song Bahang, the team is set for the encounter against Côte d’Ivoire. "It is true that the match against Côte d’Ivoire is very important to us. It will determine the next step for our qualification for the World Cup. It will be out of question that we loss. We are not afraid of the Elephants. It will be an interesting match to play. It would be the final before the final, as I hear people say. Good. But we have a to win and turn the tide to our favour. It is a great challenge", he said.
Asked if he would watch the friendly encounter between France and Côte d’Ivoire, the captain had this to say: "I have a lot of respect for both teams. But I don’t want to watch the match. This is not the moment for that. It is better for the coach and the technical team to watch the encounter. I don’t want to think a lot about the match. We have two weeks ahead of us and we have to concentrate to come out with good results. Today, we cannot make calculations. We have used all our jokers. The only other option left is to win", the captain said.
Coach Artur Jorge once more explained the reason for his choice of team for the friendly match. "We have won all our matches so far. All we need is to play a match with a team", he noted. To him, he has very good players at his disposal and was sure that his team will be victories on September 04.
FECAFOOT representative, David Mayebi said he was satisfied that FIFA is doing all to make sure that fair play should reign during the match in Abidjan, which have been classified as a "high risk" encounter. "The referees to officiate will certainly be at their best as they all nurture the ambition of handling matches of the next World Cup", he said.
The next press conference of the Lions would be during their next training camp which begins on September 28.
