Djemba-Djemba wants to settle
Eric Djemba-Djemba reckons his country`s failure to qualify for the Olympic Games in Athens could prove to be a blessing in disguise for his personal career.
Although the Cameroonian international feels the heartbreak of his nation, he also believes that he can now attempt to cement his place in the Red Devils starting line-up.
"Not going to the Olympics was disappointing for the country but I can now concentrate on United and not be catching up with things again," said Djemba-Djemba.
"Maybe this year I can do a lot better. It won`t be easy because we have Roy Keane and Paul Scholes and a lot of big players in midfield. But I believe in myself and I believe I can get a place."
The African Nations Cup winner of 2002, who had an indifferent debut season at Old Trafford, incurred the wrath of manager Sir Alex Ferguson on numerous occasions last season because of his constant international commitments.
Djemba-Djemba also needed to return home to the West African country for personal reasons last year, but now claims there is nothing to halt his progress this season.
"There were a lot of problems last year for me," explained the midfielder. "I had to return home to look after my mother when she was ill, then I had Olympic Games qualifiers with Cameroon and African Nations Cup matches.
"It wasn`t helpful at all for me settling into a new club and country.
"But this year everything is clear. This season is a big test for me now and I have nothing to impede it. I hope to play more and more games this year.
