Nigeria plan friendlies against the Netherlands, Austria
LAGOS,
Nigeria will play against the Netherlands and Austria next year as part of their preparations for the 2002 World Cup, an official said Monday.
Patrick Okpomo, The secretary-general of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), told reporters Nigeria will host the Netherlands on May 13 while the match against Austria has been fixed for April 13 in Vienna.
Both the Netherlands and Austria failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Okpomo said Nigeria are studying a proposal to also play against fellow World Cup qualifiers Uruguay. He said Uruguay was being considered to afford Nigeria a chance to study the South American playing style of their group rivals Argentina.
The`Super Eagles` will leave for their World Cup training camp in Fuji-Yoshida, which is some 200 kilometres (120 miles) west of Tokyo, on May 18.
Nigeria are drawn with England, Argentina and Sweden in the first round of the World Cup, which begins May 31.
