Duodu defends his decision
Ghana coach Fred Osam-Duodu is bullish about the departure of ever-controversial Samuel Kuffour from the Ghana squad.
Despite the disruption caused by Kuffour`s expulsion, Osam-Duodu is still confident about his team`s chances of progressing to the quarter finals.
"I`m relieved that the issue around Sammy Kuffour`s expulsion is behind us now," he said defiantly.
"He was a disruptive influence in the camp. I now have to prepare the boys psychologically but I am confident most of them understand the situation."
They were eyewitnesses to what happened," he added, although he did not elaborate further.
He said he was quite prepared to accept the consequences of what he had done.
"I have taken the decision and will have to live with it. There will be one or two who are very close to Kuffour who will not like the decision but they will have to accept it,"
Rebuilding
A below-par performance in their drawn opening game against Morocco left Duodu with mixed feelings.
"I was happy that no-one has been able to take the lead in our group. However, I felt that my boys played below par because our preparations in the friendly matches before the tournament were perfect."
"I was expecting us to play much better than we did."
Duodu called for patience from the Black Stars` fans as he launches a rebuilding programme geared towards qualification for the 2006 World Cup finals.
"I`m very happy with the progress of my boys because we`re building towards something. We are wiping out the old guard and preparing the ground for someone else to take over."
"Before we came over I told the whole world we`re coming to make an impression apart from trying to win the trophy."
"The fans may get impatient because they want results - that`s the case anywhere in Africa. But I have to inform them about my plans and ask for patience, " said Duodu.
