Volleyball: Indomitable Lionesses to Roar in Abuja
The major objective of the team is to bring home the trophy.
The national ladies volleyball team, the Indomitable Lionesses, left the country for Abuja, Nigeria yesterday where they will participate in the 15th edition of the African Cup of Nations Ladies competition. The squad left the country at 8:00am on board a Cameroon Air Lines flight to Lagos. The Lionesses joined seven other countries in Abuja for the competition. Originally scheduled to leave the country on August 31, the team only left yesterday thanks to a government subvention of CFA 35 million. The technical meeting of the competition took place yesterday evening.
The squad unveiled by coach Yende Lavoisier include team captain, Ambatta Carole, Nack, Beleng Rose, Asta Gamkoua, Ngo Batta, Bella Viviane, Ngo Nkot Rebecca, Kenmoe Laine, Tchatchou Nyoyo, Kouda Kadeke. The France-based players are: Minsili Avebe, Tenchou Perone and Patricia Ngombi Ndolo. The professionals joined the team in Abuja. According to the Secretary General of FECAVOLLEY, Tocko Ekambi, the professionals had no option but to travel to Abuja due to time constraints.
Cameroon qualified for the 2006 World Championships in Japan after wining one of the Africa zone qualifiers in the Mauritius Island last April. Cameroon, Egypt and Kenya will represent the continent at the World Cup. According to coach Yende, all the players that went to the Mauritius Island will be present in Abuja. The best performance of the national ladies team at the African Cup of Nations in recent years is the third place. Coach Yende said that the major objective of the team this year is to win the trophy.
