Spanish first division match reports
MADRID,
Reports of matches in the Spanish first division:
Played Sunday:
ALAVES 1 TENERIFE 0
Alaves claimed their first win in three games, the only goal of the game coming after 12 minutes when Magno Mocelin headed in from point-blank range after Sergio Aragoneses was only able to parry a fierce drive from Carlos Llorens.

BARCELONA 3 SEVILLA 1
The visitors grabbed the lead after five minutes when the unmarked Tomas clipped in at the far post. But Rivaldo, signalling his return to form with a masterful individual performance, produced a classy finish to drill home three minutes later.
The Brazilian then set up Barca`s second when Sevilla keeper Antonio Notario parried his swerving free kick to leave Gabri with a simple tap-in on 58 minutes. Rivaldo wrapped up with a trademark curling free kick four minutes later.

CELTA VIGO 1 OSASUNA 1
Osasuna produced yet another battling performance to come from behind and claim a valuable away point against the high-flying Galicians.
Celta`s Brazilian midfielder Vagner finished off a weaving run to fire an angled shot inside the far post on 25 minutes. But Cesar Cruchaga grabbed the equaliser 20 minutes after the break as he powered in a header after a Francisco Punal corner.

LAS PALMAS 3 REAL MALLORCA 1
Josico gave the home side the lead with a diving header in the first half, but the game looked destined for a draw when Alberto Luque nodded in a Roberto Losada cross in the 72nd minute.
But two injury-time goals ensured Fernando Vazquez`s side grabbed all three points. Gabriel Schurrer got behind the Mallorca defence to head in the first and keeper Nacho Gonzalez smashed home from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time after Jon Olaizola had handled in the area.

REAL BETIS 1 MALAGA 1
Honours even in a typically hard-fought Andalucian derby. Defender Juanito gave the home side the lead when he poked in from close range after a corner two minutes into the second half. But Portuguese international defender Litos levelled as he bounced his header over keeper Pablo Contreras and into the net.
Betis forward Cesar was sent off for a needlessly reckless challenge with just three minutes left on the clock.

REAL MADRID 1 VALENCIA 0
It took a fine opportunist strike from an alert Fernando Morientes to separate the two title contenders in an absorbing and hard-fought contest at the Bernabeu.
Both sides had good scoring opportunities throughout the game, and it took impressive displays from both keepers to stop there being a hatful of goals.
A rare lapse in the Valencia defence allowed Morientes to pounce and poke home the winner from a Luis Figo cross in the 72nd minute.

REAL ZARAGOZA 0 ESPANYOL 0
A goalless draw was a fair reflection of a dull encounter at La Romareda stadium. Zaragoza were marginally the better side, but looked toothless in attack, while Espanyol sorely missed the poaching skills of suspended striker Raul Tamudo.

VALLADOLID 3 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 0
Defender Alberto Marcos hit the first goal with a 20-metre curler on 31 minutes and a minute later Fernando saw his scooped shot take a deflection off a defender and loop over a helpless Molina into the net to make it 2-0.
Fernando headed in his second and Valladolid`s third 12 minutes after the break, leaving the sorry-looking Depor with just one point from their last seven away games.

Played Saturday:
ATHLETIC BILBAO 2 REAL SOCIEDAD 1
Two stunning long-range goals from Tiko were enough to give Athletic Bilbao victory over their Basque rivals. Tiko put Bilbao ahead with a fierce drive on six minutes only for Real to come back with a neat free kick from Javi de Pedro just before halftime.
Tiko struck again on the hour, cutting in from the right and beating Sander Westerveld at his near post to clinch victory.

VILLARREAL 1 RAYO VALLECANO 1
Rayo snatched a last-minute equaliser for the second league game in succession. After the heroics of Elvir Bolic against Celta Vigo last week, this time it was Jose Maria Quevedo who nodded home in the dying seconds to clinch a point.
Villarreal had dominated for most of the game but could manage no more than a Victor penalty, given for a handball by Roberto Peragon 20 minutes into the second half.
