FAP en Route to Cotonou
The team is expected to leave the country today.
FAP volleyball club of Yaounde left the country today for Cotonou, Benin, where they will take part in the 24th edition of the African Club Champions Cup competition. The competition will run from April 29 to May 9, 2005. It will bring together the best teams from 16 African countries. The Armed Forces and Police team is expected to leave Douala at 7:30am on board the Benin Golf flight and arrive in Cotonou at 9:am. On arrival, the FAP delegation will take part in the first official technical meeting today before the kick-off of the competition tomorrow.
The Armed Forces and Police team has been preparing hard in order to ensure best results. FAP officials organized a two-month training programme to keep the players in the atmosphere of competition. The last training session took place in Douala from April 21 to 28. According to FAP officials, the training session in Douala is to enable the players get used to the coastal climate similar to that of Cotonou. While in Douala, FAP played friendly matches with tough volleyball teams in the locality such as Port Douala. Apart from friendly matches the team trained daily at the gymnasium of the Lycée Joss Douala mostly in the afternoons. According to FAP officials, focus was on the attack and the defense.
FAP volleyball club of Yaounde has made great strides in the national and international scene. The team has won several cups of Cameroon as well as the national championship title. At the international level FAP are several times bronze winners of the African Clubs Cup competition and African Cup Winners Cup competitions respectively. This year the team’s objective is to win gold. According to Commandant Badjeck Didier, President of FAP volleyball club of Yaounde, the team will bring glory to Cameroon following their level of preparedness and experience in international competitions. During the first World Military Games in 1995 FAP finished 9th, and finished 4th in the World in World Military Games in Catania, Italy. In the last World Championship, FAP finished in the sixth position.
