Cameroon face Fifa sanctions
Cameroon`s Football Federation (Fecafoot) will answer charges before Fifa`s disciplinary committee for using their controversial one-piece kit at the 2004 Cup of Nations.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) ruled that the kit worn by the Indomitable Lions contravened Rule Four of the laws of the game.
Fifa general secretary Urs Linsi, who spoke to BBC Sport after Saturday`s IFAB meeting, said that the rules regarding kit were unambiguous and only permitted the use of jersey and shorts that could be worn separately.
"It is a matter of fact that in the fourth game [the quarter-final tie against Nigeria] they were using the same equipment, which was against what had been agreed upon," he explained.
"We did not take any sanctions against them for using it in the first round, as we gave them a chance to get new kit.
"As a result, we have now forwarded the case to the Fifa disciplinary committee which will deal with this matter at a date which has not been decided."
Linsi said that Fifa has a responsibility to ensure that the long-established traditions of the sport are followed.
"It is our obligation to defend the rules of the sport and ensure that they are followed.
"If they are violations, we have no choice but to step in."
Puma, who are Cameroon`s sportswear manufacturers, had claimed that they had received permission from Fifa to produce the kit.
But Fifa deputy general secretary Jerome Champagne, whom Puma claimed had sanctioned the kit, insisted he never did so.
"It is not true that I had given them permission," Champagne told BBC Sport on Saturday.
"Where is the written authorisation proving this?
"As far as we are concerned, the rules on apparel are clear and the decision of the IFAB brings an end to this matter."
