Zinedine Zidane as the best player of 2001 according to Onze Mondial
MADRID
As known, many well-known football publishings of different countries grant players with different prizes. The French football magazine Onze Mondial is not an exception in this event.
Since 1976, the French magazine (originally Onze, changed name 1989) hands out awards at the end of the year. The readers select the "Onze de Onze" (an ideal team of the season) and among those players they choose the top-3 receiving, respectively, the Onze d`Or, Onze d`Argent and Onze de Bronze. Any player in a European league is eligible.
Since 1991, there is also an election for Coach of the Year; and at the 20-year anniversary of the magazine in 1995 a "Super Onze d`Or" was chosen among the winners of the Onze d`Or.
Onze Mondial recognized Zinedine Zidane as the best player of 2001. As the magazine muses, the award will be granted to the Real Madrid midfielder and the France international on Thursday.
Zizou will be awarded the trophy at the Santiago Bernabeu in the presence of the Royal Club`s president Florentino Perez, and the sports director Jorge Valdano by Michel Platini.
Thus, Zidane will add to his rich collection (1998, 2000 - best player of the year according to FIFA, 1998 - Golden Ball) the trophy, which he will be granted on Thursday.
