Anelka recalled as Henry ruled out
PARIS,
After Arsenal`s brilliant victory over Manchester United (4-0) in the English League Cup, Arsenal`s coach Arsene Wenger, who was against the Australia v France friendly, claimed Arsenal`s Thierry Henry would have to miss the tie through an ankle injury suffered during the Sunday tie with Charlton (2-4), French daily "L`Equipe" reported.
"He has reported to the doctor of French Football Federation, who will take the final decision on Tuesday", announced the Frenchman. "I think he`d better stay out of action for the forthcoming tie. He suffered an ankle injury in a tackle. At the moment he`s not fit to play".
The controversial match seems to be doomed to failure. Earlier on Emmanuel Petit was ruled out of the clash through an ankle injury. Alain Boghossian replaced him. Now that Henry is to miss the forthcoming fixture a possible replacement to him seems to be Nicolas Anelka.
Roger Lemerre recalled Nicolas Anelka after Jean-Marcel Ferret, the French national team doctor, who examined the Arsenal`s forward and advised him against entering the pitch.
PSG striker Nicolas Anelka hasn`t been recalled since summer`s Confederation Cup tournament.
The French national team members will gather on Tuesday. They will fly to Melbourne the next day at 9 a.m.
