State burial for Foe
Cameroon´s government plans to honour Marc-Vivien Foe with a state burial. The midfielder died during a Confederations Cup game for Cameroon on Thursday, after collapsing unchallenged in the 72nd minute.
Funeral arrangements are to be discussed with members of the late player´s family before the final plans are officially announced.
It is expected to take place in Yaounde on 12 or 13 July.
Bidoung Mkpatt, Cameroon´s sports minister, told reporters that Foe´s body will be laid-in-state on Thursday, in the midfielder´s adopted city of Lyon.
The Cameroon delegation will then accompany the body to Yaounde on Friday.
Foe´s funeral service will be held in the Yaounde Catholic Cathedral.
Cameroon´s 1-0 loss to France in Sunday´s Confederations Cup final was barely noticed by fans, still grieving over the loss of Foe.
Groups of people did not huddle in front of television sets to watch the game, as is usually the case when the national team is engaged in international tournaments.
