Fans angry with Cameroon defeat
By Martin Etonge
Although it was just a friendly, Cameroon`s 3-0 defeat to Ivory Coast has not gone down well with Indomitable Lions supporters back home.
Fans that watched the game on TV spilt the blame between the players and head coach, Winfried Schafer.
"That was not the Indomitable Lions. They were a total disgrace,"one fan remarked.
Another said: "If it was only one nil, we could manage the disgrace. But it went up to 3-0. And from which country? Ivory Coast."
Prince Ndoki Mukete, the deputy secretary general of the Cameroon Football Federation, Fecafoot, said it was a soulless team that lost in France.
"The players lacked fighting spirit. It was no Cameroon squad at all."
Reports indicate that Fecafoot officials are demanding an explanation from Schaefer for what they regard as a humiliating defeat.
But whatever reasons he may proffer for the loss, the degree of public confidence in Schaefer`s managerial skills will drop.
