Ivory Coast tame Cameroon
Ivory Coast 3-0 Cameroon
Ivory Coast indicated their readiness for their forthcoming Nations Cup qualifiers against Burundi with a convincing 3-0 win over Cameroon.
The match, played in the French town of Chateauroux, attracted a smattering of supporters from both countries, despite the cold weather.
The Ivorians seized control of the match from the start, as their organised build-up and incisive forays into the Cameroonian half created problems for captain Rigobert Song.
It was no surprise when the incessant pressure on the Indomitable Lions was rewarded in the 37th minute, when Tchiressoua Guel locked onto a clever pass from Feyenoord`s Bonaventure Kalou to get the opener.
With a goal in the kitty, the Ivorians turned up the pressure on the Cameroonians.
The constant stream of pressure paid off in the 45th minute, when Drogba latched onto Akale`s pass to shoot the ball into the far corner of the net.
Drogba`s spectacular goal was the high point of the game.
Cameroon tried to turn the tables on the Ivorians in the second half but their haph-hazard approach did little to help their cause.
All chances of getting back into the game were ruined by Atouba, who foul on George earned the Ivorians a penalty.
Bonaventure Kalou made no mistake from the spot.
Bella got Cameroon`s best scoring chance in the 87th minute but his powerful header was saved by the Ivorian goalkeeper Yeboah.
The loss will do little for the sagging confidence of the Indomitable Lions.
It was their first game since their first round exit from the World Cup in Korea/Japan.
