Interpools : Yaounde And Douala Set
A total of 14 teams from all the provinces will be participating in the tournament.
The Interpools race has reached its peak. The event proper rumbles off tomorrow in Yaounde and Douala. Like in the previous editions, a total of 14 teams will be participating. Three of the 14 teams will be promoted to division one at the end of the competition. Seven teams will be based in Yaounde and seven others in Douala. The flag bearer in the Centre Province will play in Douala while the flag bearer in the LittoralProvince will play in Yaounde. The seven teams to play in Yaounde in pool B, are: Caïman of Douala, Renaissance of Ngoumou, Fédéral of Foumban, Prisons Buea, CPSM of Messamena, Cercle Sportif Opep and Colombe of Sangmelima. Of the seven teams, only two are still new comers in the competition.
Renaisance of Ngoumou is joining the competition for the first time. Renaisance reached the 16th finals of the Cup of Cameroon last year and have also reached the same level in this year’s cup of Cameroon competition. Even though this is their first participation, their greatest ambition is to replace ASMY 1er who have been demoted to division two. The sum of CFA 20 million was raised recently by the elites of the division for the up keep of the team throughout the competition. Centre Sportif of Messamena are also in their first participation in the round robin tournament. After Union of Abong-Mbang, Stade Bertoua and Sofibel of Belabo in the past, Centre Professionnel Sportif Mebahel (Cpsm) of Messamena is the next club from the East Province to aspire for a place in division one. Created in 1999, Cpsm of Messamena are the East Provincial champions for the year 2002 as well as winners of the East provincial cup finals. Cercle Sportif Opep FC of Garoua though a young team will be participating for the second time in the competition. Their first participation was last year. Even though they crashed out at the 16th finals, hopes are high that they will go further this time. Old timers form the majority of the teams in this pool. Caïman of Douala is an older timer and have been champions of Cameroon in at least three editions. Caïman did not show up last year but it is likely that their return in the competition this time will wet the appetite of their supporters by giving the Littoral Provvince a representative in division one.
Fédéral Of Foumban is another old timer. Though presently in divison two, Fédéral is former division one club. Their last appearance was in 1986. After their long stay in division two, Fédéral still has hopes of representing the West Province in division one next season. Colombe of Sangmelima, another old name in the history of football in Cameroon is also making another come back in the Interpools.
