Akono: New Pirates assistant?
Jean Paul Akono, the man who guided Cameroon to Olympic football gold in 2000 is reportedly set to be named as the new Orlando Pirates assistant coach.
Akono, who led a team that included Samuel Eto`o and Patrick Mboma to the title in Sydney in 2000, beat off several other candidates including John Moeti, Brendon Silent and Willem Jackson.
Akono, who is already in South Africa, will reportedly start working with Owen da Gama as soon as possible. The assistant`s position with The Buccaneers has been vacant since da Gama took over from Bibey Mutombo at the start of the season.
