Lions Train to Face Elephants
Some 25 professional players of the national football team begin camping in Paris on Sunday.
In barely 23 days, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon would be facing the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire. The match, on September 4 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, has been described as the final ahead of the final in Group 3 of the on-going joint eliminatories for the 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations.
Judging from the importance of the encounter, nothing would be left to chance in the Cameroonian side. A meticulous programme to prepare the Lions for the Abidjan expedition has been elaborated by officials of the Cameroon Football Federation, the Administrative Unit of the National team and the Ministry of Sports and physical Education. Two training camps have been organized to fine-tune the skills of the Lions.
The first, which will run for four days, begins on Sunday, August 14 at Centre Leonard de Vinci in France. Generally, the Lions will have two training sessions per day with a test match on Wednesday. The encounter, possibly against a local side in France, will offer Arthur Jorge an opportunity to assess the physical and tactical worth of the players he called to camp.
