Injured Kanu Heads for Bamako
Super Eagles` striker Nwankwo Kanu who sustained an unexpected injury during Sunday`s Premiership clash between Arsenal and Liverpool in Highbury, may be arriving the Eagles` camp today with an ankle injury.
The incident which saw the former African footballer of the year substituted in the second half of the gusty 1-1 encounter, has now become a major source of worry for Coach Shaibu Amodu who had over the weekend included the gifted player in the 22-man list submitted for the Mali 2002 finals kicking off next weekend.
It was not clear at press time Sunday extent of the injury, but the Nigerian technical crew remains optimistic that Kanu would get better in time for Eagles` opening match against Algeria on January 21.
Kanu who is expected to partner Germany-based Victor Agali in Eagles` attack during the continental fiesta, was delayed in Highbury by Coach Arsene Wenger till after Sunday`s match, despite stiff oppisition by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) who wanted the player to join his colleagues in Ota, before the team`s departure to Abidjan last Wednesday.
Arsenal`s early fire against their arch rivals Liverpool, saw Kanu who was replaced by Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp in the 55th minute, head over from close range as Henry whipped in a vicious free-kick from the left.
