Sports updates.
The 42nd edition of the National Premier soccer league ends today November 14, 2001 with matches of the 30th day of play. From the fixtures, Olympic of Mvolye will entertain the virtual champions, Coton Sport of Garoua at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in the first of the two encounters programmed there, while Cintra takes on Fovu Baham in the second encounter. The Municipal Stadium in Bafoussam will also host two encounters : Sable Batie versus Tonnere Yaounde and Racing Bafoussam versus Canon Yaounde. In the rest of the fixtures, Dynamo Douala and Girondin Ngaoundere will play at the Reunification stadium in Douala, Kumbo Strikers will meet Union Sportive of Douala in Douala, Stade of Bandjoun will lock horns with Esperance Guider in Bandjoun and Unisport Bafang will meet Mount Cameroon of Buea at the Bafang Municipal Stadium.
It should be recalled that prior to the last playing day of the championship, it is already evident that Dynamo Douala, Olympic Mvolye and Girondin Ngaoundere will play in the Second Division league in the next football season.
Meanwhile, the national interpools competition enters the 6th day of play tomorrow. In the Bertoua pool, the fixtures will be as follows : Aigle of Dschang will play AS Sangmelima, ASMY Premier versus Cercle Sportif Garoua, Botafogo Buea meets Viper of Banyo. In the Ngaoundere pool, Sahel of Maroua will take on Bambotous Mbouda, Victoria United plays SOSUCAM Mbandjock and Rangers International, Bamenda will lock horns with AS Mungo.
In other sports news, the Men`s and Women`s national volleyball teams are expected back in the country today, November 12, 2001 from Port Harcourt, Nigeria, after their brilliant performance at the African Cup of Nations. The Men`s team won the cup while the Women`s squad came third in the overall classification.
