Ngoudjo`s challenge shown on SS
Malignaggi will defend his IBF junior welterweight belt against the mandatory challenger at Bally’s Main Ballroom.
Live coverage of the action in New Jersey will start on SS 7 and SS 8 at 03:00 on Sunday (SA time) and a recording will be shown on SS 5 at 15:00.
The colourful champion, who has a record of 23-1, with 5 knockouts, will take the role of the boxer and Cameroon`s Ngoudjo (16-1; 9) will be the puncher. This makes for an exciting matchup.
Malignaggi will make the first defence of the belt that he won when he defeated Lovemore Ndou over 12 rounds on June 16 last year.
Malignaggi’s only loss was when he was outpointed in a hard-fought match against undefeated WBO champion Miguel Cotto on June 10, 2006.
Ngoudjo, who represented Cameroon at the 2000 Olympics, now fights out of Canada. He suffered his only loss when Jose Luis Castillo beat him on a controversial 12-round split decision on January 20 last year.
In his most recent fight, Ngoudjo outpointed former world champion Randall Bailey in an IBF eliminator.
Malignaggi has an outstanding jab and is a polished boxer with tremendous hand speed, but lacks punching power, as shown by his history of only five stoppage wins.
Ngoudjo has gained experience against some tough opposition but will be hard pressed against the slick champion who should box his way to a points decision.
Magic Man`s manhood questioned
Sapa-AFP reports that the champion and the his Quebec-based challenger exchanged verbal taunts on Wednesday, with Ngoudjo questioning the manhood of the "Magic Man".
"You`re going to be my girlfriend in the ring," Ngoudjo said. "I`m going to punish you. You can`t take it. That`s the problem. You`re going to see."
"I`m going to use your head as a pinball," Malignaggi countered. "Remember this conversation when I`m kicking your butt."
During a media conference he said, "Having waited six months for a title defence was a little frustrating, so I`m opening up the year with a bang.
"He`s a workman type of fighter with a big mouth. So I`m going to enjoy beating the crap out of him.
"I respect Ngoudjo. He`s a good fighter. But I`m going to be ready for him. Now he`s going to pay for his words.
"I come motivated as it is. You don`t need to add fuel to the fire."
"I`m going to put him down," Ngoudjo said. "I`m going to prove to him that I am the best in the world. I`m going to make him dance and then I`m going to put him down."
"He wins fights by decision. He shuts guys out. The power factor... it`s really not there."
