Koppel turns down Cameroon job
BERLIN,
Former German international Horst Koppel has turned down the chance to become the new coach of Cameroon.
Instead, 53-year-old Koppel has decided to take on the job as coach to Borussia Dortmund`s amateur side who play in the German Fourth Division, the SID news agency reported here Monday.
"The Cameroon job would have been very challenging," said Koppel, who was assistant to Franz Beckenbauer with the German national team at the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico.
"But after talking it over with Gerd Niebaum, the Dortmund president, and manager Michael Meier, I have decided to stay with Dortmund."
The African side had wanted Koppel to coach them at next year`s World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea.
