A single goal from Patrick Mboma was enough to see reining champions Cameroon beat Egypt in the last eight of the African Nations Cup.
Mboma, the African Footballer of the Year scored his third goal of the competition just after the hour mark and headed past Essam Al-Hadary after a Geremi Njitap corner.
It was a quiet first half but the Indomitable Lions were the slightly better side.
Samuel Eto`o had a chance to score after only four minutes but the Egypt keeper stopped his shot.
Alioum Boukar did not have much to do at the opposite end of the pitch for the first half as Egypt played a very cautious game and did not threaten the Cameroon goal.
Eto`o had the best chance of the match just after the break. He capitalised on an Al-Hadary blunder to round him but the resulting shot went high and wide when the goal was yawning at his mercy.
Egypt were playing a counter-attacking game but to no avail in a game that so needed a goal to spark it into action.
That goal came on 62 minutes when the Parma striker finally beat the resistance of the Egyptian defence to nod the only goal of the game.
The Lions will now face Mali in the semi-finals, after the host nation shocked South Africa yesterday.
