Top Nigerian club sack coach
LAGOS
Nigeria`s representatives in next year`s CAF Cup, NPA of Warri, have fired coach Godfrey Esu following a row over better pay and recruitment of players for the new season.
Esu told reporters Monday he had received a letter from the club informing him of his sacking. He has been replaced by former national team coach Sebastian Brodricks.
The coach, who is owed salaries for eight months, said he had asked the club to improve the wages of both officials and players.
He added that club officials had also kicked against his recommendations to sign experienced players rather than snap up home-grown youngsters for the coming league campaign.
Last season, Esu guided NPA to third position in the Super League in only their debut season in the top flight. This performance qualified the `Warri Seasiders`, as the club is known by the fans, to feature in the CAF Cup next year.
