France team to beat at World Cup: Ferguson
LONDON,
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson believes France will be the team to beat at next year`s World Cup and is tipping Italy`s Francesco Totti to be the player of the tournament.
Ferguson, quoted by Tuesday`s Daily Mail, said France`s world and European champion would be favourites and added that England were unlikely to topple Roger Lemerre`s side.
"France are still head and shoulders above the rest," Ferguson told the paper, adding that England`s David Beckham and Michael Owen were likely to star for Sven-Goran Eriksson`s team.
But AS Roma`s Totti would be the star in Japan and South Korea, Ferguson said.
"Beckham and Owen can go to another level, but this will be Totti`s World Cup," he said.
"He is clearly the best - and then there is Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry for France. Spain also have some interesting youngsters, but Raul is the one who stands out," he added.
