Division I Football : Canon on Top
The 24th playing day for National Division I championship took place yesterday.
After a brief recess, teams engaged in the National Division I Championship returned to the pitches yesterday for matches of the 24th playing day. With just six more playing days ahead, teams at the top of the classification table such as Bamboutos and Canon continued the battle for the first place while those at the bottom put in their best to avoid relegation.
The Bamboutos-Canon encounter at the Reunification stadium turned out to be the most contested. Host team, Canon beat Bamboutos 1-0 to join Coton Sport at the head of the league. Stade de Bandjoun, hitherto first from bottom, moved one step ahead after out playing Unisport in Bandjoun 1-0. They handed their seat of disgrace to Caiman who lost to Racing (0-1) in Douala.
The 24th playing day was however marred by the absence of some four teams of particular interest: Coton Sport, PWD, Cintra and Tonnerre. Most of their players are part of the national team engaged in an international tournament in Iran. The encounter between Tonnerre — PWD and Coton sport — Cintra will be played on a latter date.
