Cameroun Overtake Nigeria in Fifa Ranking
AFRICA Nations Cup defending champions, Cameroun have overtaken Nigeria again on the current FIFA rankings released in Zurich, Switzerland yesterday.
Nigeria slipped downwards by six steps to place 40th this month as against her 34th position last month.
This places the country at the fifth position behind Cameroun which moved one step up from her fifth position last month.
Nigeria`s drop may not be unconnected with her team`s inactivity since the July 29 hyped crucial World Cup qualifier against Ghana which the Super Eagles won 3-0 to book a place for the Korea/Japan 2002 event.
Despite dropping three steps to now occupy the 25th position worldwide, Tunisia maintain her lead as Africa`s number one while South Africa and Morocco remain number two and three respectively.
Other countries that made the top 10 are Egypt 6, Cote d`Ivoire 7, Angola 8, Ghana 9 and Zambia 10.
World champions France remain world number one while Brazil, Argentina and Italy follow in that order. Portugal who placed 9th last month, climbed four steps overtaking Spain to now occupy the 5th position.
