Mettomo switch negotiations continue
English division two club, Manchester City have been told to increase their bid if they wish to obtain the services of Cameroon’s international defender, Lucien Mettomo from French club St Etienne.
Negotiations began a few weeks ago after Manchester City manager, Kevin Keegan, expressed his intention to sign the defender after he impressed him during a trial spell at their Carrington training ground earlier this week.
St Etienne say they have received a bid from City - believed to be £3m - for the experienced international who can operate in defence or midfield.
After losing 4-3 at Coventry on Wednesday, Kevin Keegan`s side could use Mettomo to shore up a leaky defence which has conceded 14 goals in seven league fixtures.
But club spokesman Eric Fages said: "Their offer is not high enough and the club has refused it. There are still negotiations going on."
Mettomo joined St Etienne in 1996 and helped them to promotion two years later. After losing 4-3 at Coventry on Wednesday, Kevin Keegan`s side could use Mettomo to shore up a leaky defence which has conceded 14 goals in seven league fixtures.
