Table Tennis: Promising Start
Sarah Hanffou, Simon Ebode lift first single/double mixed victories
Cameroon’s table tennis team kick started the 6th Francophonie Games in Beirut on September 28 with hope following early victories registered against their Lebanese pool B opponents. Sarah Matilde Hanffou Nana emerged better than her opponent with a 3-0 win in the single event and went on to beat another Lebanese. Cameroon’s team of two is in pool B alongside host country, Lebanon, Vietnam, Cyprus, Romania, Morocco and Benin.
More pool B Games were on course at press time with the head coach of the Cameroon team, Simon Achiri Achu keeping a positive spirit. Finalists of the team event will be known by October 1st before single and double mixed events continue with direct eliminatories. From the look of things, it will be tough but head coach, Simon Achiri Achu believes that his team has the strength to spring surprises in his conviction that “table tennis is won and lost only on tables and not through forecasts”. Meanwhile late hour results featured Sarah and Simon Ebode beating Benin 3-0 in another double mix.
