Metsu`s men march on
Senegal 2-1 Bolivia
Senegal`s depth and strength were shown again in Dakar on Wednesday in an impressive win over Bolivia, the first South American side the Lions have ever played.
It was a memorable night for Mamadou Niang, who scored the winning goal on his debut in the 64th minute.
Niang shot home from a narrow angle to the near post after beating the goalkeeper.
Senegal took the lead through Pape Bouba Diop just before half time.
His goal was the result of a poor Bolivian clearance.
El Hadj Diouf picked up the ball, dribbled round two defenders, and laid the ball off for Diop.
Goal-mouth scramble
Diouf looked as if had scored the opener in the 20th minute, but his header was ruled offside.
Bolivia put up a spirited response, and drew level from a counter attack through their diminutive striker Diego Bengolea.
The Bolivian tapped home easily after Ferdiand Coly and goalkeeper Omar Diallo failed to clear the ball off the goal line.
The game was dull until the goals started going in.
The first half was distinctly mediocre, with neither side showing much class.
But they eventually got into their stride, and the South Americans showed flashes of brilliance, that could have caused the Lions a headache.
The up-front trio of Xavier, Eduardo and Raul were the Bolivian`s best players.
It was not an explosive encounter, but it will give Senegal confidence.
They now need to test themselves against far tougher opposition.
