PATRICK ARRIVAL HANDS KYLE EXTRA INCENTIVE
Kevin Kyle has revealed the reason behind his six-goal blast in the last week - the arrival of Patrick Mboma.
Scottish striker Kyle has hit a rich vein of form in the last seven days, culminating in him firing four goals for the reserves on Monday.
The Black Cats youngster is now the top scorer in the FA Premier Reserve League, with 10 goals.
And the youngster reckons the arrival of Mboma, which has forced him down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light, has added to his determination to impress boss Peter Reid.
Kyle said: "I didn`t know too much about Patrick before he came here but he has been unbelievable.
"He`s a great addition to the squad and I can only learn from him. In fact, I`m in a great position to learn here, training with Patrick and Quinny.
"Patrick`s arrival is disappointing in a way because it means I`m further away from the first team but there`s no point in sulking.
"I`ve got to keep playing well and show the gaffer that I want to get into the team, and the best way to do that is to score goals."
Kyle hit two against Leeds Reserves last week then fired four past Villa in Durham on Monday - three of them coming in the first half.
The 7-0 win put Sunderland Reserves to the top of the table and Kyle is eyeing a medal at the end of the season.
"Things seemed to have clicked recently and the performance against Villa was just carried on from Leeds last week," he said.
"We are top but the sides around us have games in hand so it won`t be easy.
"Since I`ve come to Sunderland the reserves have always done well and it`d be nice to win it this year, especially after the disappointment of last season. We`ve just got to keep winning from now until the end of the season.
"I scored four the other night and to be honest it could have been more. It was pleasing to be involved in such a good team display."
