Japan coach Osim names just 12 for Cameroon game
(Reuters) - Japan coach Ivica Osim named just 12 players in his provisional squad on Tuesday before next week`s home friendly against Cameroon.
The Bosnian recalled Urawa defender Tulio, who missed last month`s Asian Cup with injury, for the Aug. 22 game and is set to add another six players for the game in Oita.
The Cameroon friendly will be Japan`s first match since failing to retain the Asian Cup although no Europe-based players will be involved.
Japan`s bid for a third successive continental title were dashed with a 3-2 defeat by Saudi Arabia in the semi-finals in Hanoi.
Osim`s side were then beaten by South Korea in a penalty shootout in the third-place playoff.
Provisional squad:
Goalkeepers -- Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (Iwata), Seigo Narazaki (Nagoya)
Defenders -- Yuji Nakazawa (Yokohama F-Marinos), Akira Kaji (Gamba Osaka), Marcus Tulio Tanaka (Urawa), Yuichi Komano (Hiroshima)
Midfielders -- Hideo Hashimoto (Gamba Osaka), Yasuhito Endo (Gamba Osaka), Kengo Nakamura (Kawasaki), Keita Suzuki (Urawa), Yuki Abe (Urawa), Yasuyuki Konno (FC Tokyo)
