D1: Tonnerre Vows to Continue Unbeaten Feat
Tonnerre will be fighting to maintain their lead in the elite championship.
The ongoing Division I football championship enters Day 6 today with eight matches scheduled to take place across the country. On the look out will be the match between current league leader, Tonnerre Yaounde and bottom placed, CPS of Bertoua. Tonnerre will be seeking to prolong their record of having registered no defeat since the beginning of the competition, as well as maintain their lead in the elite championship.
Also on the look out, will be the match between Canon Yaounde and Sable Batie which is yet to score a goal or register a point in the competition this year. Canon put an end to the string of defeats registered at the beginning of the competition and won their last two matches on away soil which has enabled the club to gain six places on the league table, moving from the 17th to the 11th position after the 6th day of play. The stakes of the match will be whether Canon will continue with her winning spree or Sable will be able to cast off the yoke of defeat which has made the club to be referred to as point distributor in the elite championship.
The other matches will include Esperance versus Federal, University of Ngaoundere versus Astres of Douala, Union versus Sahel, Bamboutos versus AS Cetef, Fovu versus Lion Goma, and Foudre versus Aigle. The match between mount Cameroon and Coton Sport has been deferred to Wednesday March 28, due to the involvement of Coton Sport in the African Champions’ League.
So far, it has been a mixed performance from the newly promoted clubs into first division. Tonnerre Yaounde is doing extremely well in the first position, followed by the University of Ngaoundere football club in the fourth position. AS Cetef is performing averagely well, occupying the 7th position. Lion Goma is at the edge of the precipice in the 13th position whereas CPS of Bertoua is in the red at the last but one position.
