Indomitable Lions` make German coach offer
BERLIN,
African Nations champions Cameroon offered German coach Horst Koppel the post of national boss until after the World Cup finals next year, the former German international revealed Thursday.
The 53-year-old, currently coach of Borussia Dortmund`s amateur side and assistant coach to the German side that reached the 1986 World Cup final, said he had been told to make his mind up quickly.
"I have received an official offer," Koppel said.
"For the Federation directors I am their number one choice but I have to make my mind up quickly," he added.
However Koppel, who would be Cameroon`s third manager this year following Jean-Paul Akono and Pierre Lechantre the latter having led the side to last year`s Olympic title and then qualified them for the World Cup finals, admitted it would take a lot to tear him away from Dortmund, where his present contract runs till 2003.
"It is an interesting challenge and the money is good," he said.
"But I have very close ties to Dortmund where I have a job for life," he added.
