Cameroon get remarkable first-8 qualification
The victory lands them on an outstanding nine points and plus five goals against none after their three Group C matches.
All three goals of the match came during the second half through Metomo, Eto’o and Olembe after a first half curtain raiser by Foe was disallowed. The Lions dominated most of the encounter proving their superiority over the Togolese who squandered some clear scoring chances before the half.
Standing first on their pool pits the Lions, who are defending champions against the second team from Group D which will only be known after their third day matches Thursday.
This will likely be Egypt of Zambia, who are clashing with three and one point advantage respectively as just a draw in the match between leaders, Senegal with six points and Tunisia put the latter out of the race since they have only a point.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of Congo picked up the second Group C ticket after thrashing Cote d’Ivoire 3 – 1. The congolese get through with four points thanks to their draw with Togo in the first encounter. They lost 0 – 1 to Cameroon in the second match.
After the second playing day, Nigeria and Mali from Group A and Cameroon and the DR Congo have all qualified for the quarter finals. Last eight candidates from Group B will be known this evening after the matches between Burkina Faso and Ghana and South Africa against Morocco.
Morocco presently top the group with four points followed by South Africa and Ghana with two points each while Burkina Faso have only a point to their credit.
