43rd elite football champ opens with seven victories
Two of the seven victores were got by new comers - Bamboutos Mbouda edged Unisport of Bafang 1 – 0 while Asmy 1er of Yaounde outplayed Mt Cameroon FC of Buea 2 – 0. Only Victoria United narrowly lost their first match in the first division championship to Racing Bafoussam 0 – 1.
Remarkable among the five other victories are those of Cintra Yaounde and Union Douala who trounced Esperance Guider and Tonnerre Yaounde 3 – 0 and 3 – 1 respectively.
Meanwhile, Kumbo Strikers and Stade Bandjoun got identical 1 – 0 victories over Fovu of Baham and Canon Yaounde while Sable of Batie and Cotonsport pulled a virgin tie.
Cintra now top the league with three points and plus three goals followed by Union and Asmy 1er with three points and plus two goals each while Bamboutos, Kumbo Strikers, Stade, Racing stand third with three points and a goal credit each.
Sable and Cotonsport have just a point each to their credit while Victoria United, Canon Yaounde, Mt Cameroon FC, Fovu, Unisport, Esperance and Tonnerre have no point yet.
Despite the mediocre performance of last years champions, Cotonsport and the runners up, Canon, it is still too early to write them off the race to this year’s title. Day two matches come up next weekend.
