Yeboah goes East
Ghanaian striker Tony Yeboah has quit his German club Hamburg to take up a new contract in Qatar.
The 35-year-old, who has spent four years with the German Bundesliga side, will play for Qatar`s Al-Ittihad Sports Club.
Earlier this year Liberian legend George Weah also quit European football to play in the Gulf, for Dubai-based Al Jazira.
Yeboah, has signed a contract through to next May after terminating his Hamburg deal which ran to the end of June.
Out of favour
"He terminated his contract with us on 10 December and can leave immediately to play for his new club," said Hamburg general manager, Bernd Wehmeyer.
"I like it in the Gulf. Playing football there will be great," said the former Leeds and Eintracht Frankfurt striker.
Yeboah will play under Austrian coach Josef Hickersberger at Al-Ittihad.
The Ghanaian has only been on the fringes of the Hamburg first team this season, starting just two matches.
He has also been the subject of a tax investigation which brought him a fine last January of some $160,000.
