South Africa`s Pierre Issa situation still pending
BEIRUT
Transfer news on the Lebanese football scene:
Former Marseille, Chelsea and Watford central defender Pierre Eissa is struggling to see his contract with newly-promoted outfits Olympic Beirut already signed, after ending his one-week trial with the Lebanese side.
The vastly-experienced sweeper, 26, of Lebanese origin, boasts more than 50 international full-caps for South Africa since making it to their senior side at the age of 17, also played in the last two editions of the World Cup finals, but only for 27 minutes against Paraguay in Korea before being stretched off the field for a recurring injury.
His addition to an already star-studded side will surely boost the chances of the club to make an unprecedented achievement, as the first local side to claim the first division title in their first-ever appearance at the top flight.
Terrific Sweeper, EISSA excels in the air, a majestic powerful heading helped by his massive height (192 cm), but also quite is splendid reader of the ball in his own 18-yard penalty box.
Neat tackling is yet another added feature in his overall rounding, still questions loom over his consistency throughout the 90 minutes, notably against top-opposition sides.
Being injury-prone in what the player has been suffering from during his 10-year career so far, playing only 27 minutes for South African in the recent World Cup finals after being stretched off against Paraguay for a recurring knee injury, his 3-year spell with Marseille has also been agonized by this fact.
Vast experience is what the player enjoys at both European club and national team levels, playing at the highest stage of the game at Marseille in France and England`s outfits Chelsea and Watford. Yet, moving to a lower grade in the shape of the Lebanese domestic competitions would surely prevent him from fostering his very own scheme of play.
Excellent in both English and French languages, the player won`t find it hard to associate himself in any foreign society. A globe-trotter and outspoken character, his placid character caught the eyes whenever he displayed his talents in the near past.
