Interpool:Cetef Douala in Race For D1
The Bonaberi—based team picked their qualification for the Interpools last Saturday.
The list of ten contenders for the national round robin tournament, dubbed the Interpools, is complete. In the last provincial final last Saturday, Cetef Bonaberi beat Douala Athletico Club, 1 — 0, to grab the ticket of the Littoral for the Interpools. The teams will meet in Maroua and Garoua from November 4th, 2006 to fight for a place in the elite football league in Cameroon. Each team is already fixed on its adversaries and where it would play as draws for the competition were carried out last week. At the end of the competition, three teams will qualify for Division I. The first of the two pools automatically qualify; while those occupying the second positions will face each other to determine the third-placed team.
Virtually all the teams are presently in camp getting set for D-day. The veritable challenge of most of the teams however remains the absence of funds that will enable them to have a hitch-free participation at the Interpools. The CFA four million frs each which teams will receive from one of FECAFOOT’s partners, the mobile telephone company, MTN, is not enough. Wherefore the present move throughout the national territory to mobilise funds for Interpools teams.
In the Centre province, all hands are on deck to propel legendary Tonnerre back to its rightful place — the elite league. All D 2 teams will be organising a fund raising event next weekend to raise funds for the renowned club of the capital city which has been pooled in the "group of death". The group brings together teams from two other provinces considered as Cameroon’s football power houses — West and the Littoral. In the Northwest, the population raised nine million over the weekend. A lot still has to be done if the target of 23 million has to be met. In the South province, a special congress of Lion Ngoma has been billed for October 28th to collect funds. Similar activities will be taking place through out the country.
