Injury rules Morocco striker out of Nations Cup
SEGOU
Morocco`s Gharib Amzine will play no further part in the African Nations Cup after he suffered a back injury during the Group B match against Burkina Faso here Saturday, team officials said.
"The player has been taken to Bamako for a scan to determine the severity of the problem," Driss Lakhal, a top team official told AFP.
"But from all indications he will need to completely rest the injury for it to heal and will therefore not be part of the team again."
Amzine, who plays for French club Troyes, went down on his own in the first-half and had to be stretchered off the pitch for medical attention. His injury was later diagnosed as a dislocated vertabrae.
Another Moroccan striker, Abdeljlil Hadda, is battling to be fit for the make-or-break match against South Africa on Wednesday.
Hadda is nursing an ankle injury and failed a late fitness test before the Burkina Faso encounter. He was replaced by Nourdin Boukhari, who plays for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch league.
