Brasil fears Bayern with FIFA sanctions
MUNICH,
After Bayern Munich forward and Brasilian international Giovane Elber didn`t arrive home on Monday, Brasilian national team`s technical director Antonio Lopez issued ultimatum against the present champion of Germany: if Elber doesn`t arrive in Rio de Janeiro in 24 hours the national team`s management will file a claim to FIFA to take sanctions against the team violating the FIFA Statutes.
The South American national team managers demand their player`s return for the finals of World Cup 2002 qualifiers on November 7 and 14, despite the knee injury of the 29-year-old forward.
"It`s already three weeks I cannot train due to my knee injury," said the player in his interview to the Brasilian Globo.
"To hurt it again means to put an end to my sports career."
Bayern manager Uli Hoeness is categorical in that question: "Elber won`t go anywhere. We have the best physicians in the world, and we don`t need the confirmation of our diagnosis by the Brasilian physicians. If the player cannot play in Bundesliga due to his injury, he will not be able to play for his own national team either."
