Egypt hold Nigeria
Nigeria defender Temple Moneke salvaged a draw with Egypt with a second-half equaliser in Lagos.
Egypt opened the scoring in the 26th minute after Yohany Mohammed finished off a fine move from the left flank.
But Nigeria restored parity after the interval when Moneke scored a powerful free-kick on the hour mark.
The Eagles` spirited performance will have gone some way to making up for a disappointing display in the 0-0 draw with Jamaica last Wednesday.
Nigeria coach Christian Chukwu capped 10 new players and did not use any of those in action against Jamaica.
Defenders Okey Akabogu and Seyi Olafijana made their first senior outings, while foreign-based forwards Bright Igbinadolor, Emmanuel Ejike, Chukwudi Nworgu and Chukunyere Ndubuisi also featured.
Inspired by Portugal-based Haruna Doda, Nigeria took the game to their opponents from the outset.
Just reward
Egypt opted to sit back and hit their hosts on the counter-attack.
Ahmed `Yaro Yaro` Garba looked impressive in midfield and his first-half shot from outside the area was just wide.
The visitors continued to soak up the pressure, but posed a threat when they broke forward.
Why are North Africans so strong?
Indeed, one of their rare forays into the Nigeria half resulted in the opening goal.
Yohany Mohammed had the simplest of finishes to beat Austin Ejide in the Nigerian goal after some good work on the left wing.
Nigeria upped the tempo in the second half and were rewarded for their endeavour with a deserved equaliser courtesy of Moneke`s right boot.
Nworgu, who was full of running throughout the game, went close to giving Nigeria the lead moments later, but his free header went wide.
Nigeria: Austin Ejide, Bob Osim, Temple Moneke, Seyi Olafijana, Okey Akabogu, Emmanuel Ejike, Bright Igbinadolor (Edith Agoye), Haruna Doda (Ndidi Anumnu), Ahmed `Yaro Yaro` Garba, Chukudi Nworgu (Uche Ogochukwu), Chukunyere Ndubuisi.
