Bayern`s Rummenigge slams Ronaldo on-off transfer saga
MUNICH
Bayern Munich president and former West Germany striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Wednesday blasted the on-off transfer saga of Brazil`s Ronaldo as a "huge farce".
Inter Milan`s Ronaldo has said in recent days he is unhappy in Italy. European champions Real Madrid had been a hot tip to sign him although the player`s agent earlier Wednesday committed him to staying put.
That wasn`t enough to placate former Inter star Rummenigge, however.
"It`s an absolute farce in my view. When a player is injured for two years and pockets 100 percent (of his salary), then plays the World Cup which provides no benefit for his club and then wants away with a new contract, you have to ask yourself about that player`s character and that of his advisor," said Rummenigge.
The German, who is known for his outspoken views on transfer and player issues, said he had discussed the matter with Real president Florentino Perez.
"That can`t be the future of football. We don`t want this kind of legionnaire system," said Rummenigge.
