Nigeria coach calms crocked Kanu fears
Nigeria boss Festus Onigbinde confirmed that Nwankwo Kanu will be fit to play Sweden despite coming off injured in the 1-0 defeat to Argentina. "Our medical team will look after him," he said after admitting he was pleased with his team.
The Arsenal striker took a knock just before half-time, tried to come out after the break but had to be substituted after 47 minutes.
But Onigbinde said after the game that the Arsenal striker would be fit to play Sweden on Friday. He said: "I think somebody must have elbowed him in the side but our team will look at it and take care of him."
Nigeria fought hard against Argentina but Gabriel Batistuta popped up at the far post to head in a Juan Sebastian Veron corner in the 62nd minute to win the game.
But Onigbinde said that he was pleased with his team`s effort. He said: "I was very impressed with the performance of my players.
"The team as a whole played a good game but probably our attack was not strong enough, we should have been sharper but Kanu was injured early in the game."
And the Nigeria coach added that the Super Eagles still have a chance to qualify for the second round.
"Losing this first match will make us utterly motivated to work harder and our ambition now is to win the remaining two matches," he said.
"We`ve lost, but the standard of our game was good."Hits: 1 | Source:One Football
