Abega`s health scare
Cameroonian football legend, Theophile Abega, is recovering from a health scare, after being rushed to a hospital in Yaounde on Thursday last week.
Abega, a star player for the Indomitable Lions at the 1982 World Cup, was in hospital care.
He collapsed on the training pitch of league club, Cannon Sportif, where he is the general manager.
The club has issued no official statement on his condition but doctors have reportedly said Abega was in no danger and could return to normal activities soon.
Fans of the club have linked Abega`s health situation to its dwindling fortunes.
Dominant Canon
Selected as one of best African clubs of the 20th century by the Confederation of African football (Caf), Cannon have not won a league title in over a decade.
Their most recent success was in 1999, when they won the Cup of Cameroon.
Cannon Sportif dominated Cameroonian league and African club football in the late 1970`s and early 80`s.
Alongside Jean Manga Onguene and goalkeeper, Thomas Nkono, Abega formed the club`s nucleus during this period.
Onguene went on to manage the national team at the 1998 African Nations Cup and Nkono was the goalkeeper trainer for the Indomitable Lions side that won the 2002 Nations Cup in Mali.
Nicknamed "The Doctor" during his playing days, Abega captained Cameroon to its very first African Nations Cup title in 1984 and retired from active football in 1987.
