Cameroon former international football player, Roger Milla, said on Monday to APA that the five African representatives to the forthcoming football World Cup due to start next 9 June in Germany have real chances of a brilliant performance during the competition.
Milla`s "Lions Life"
“Our representatives can surprise during the world cup because they are working hard for that. I have recently seen Togo in Germany, but believe me, it is a very determined team,” he stated on the sideline of the launching of his autobiography titled “Roger Milla, a Lion’s life.” The former scorer of Cameroon Indomitable Lions who participated in three world cup play-offs negates those who believe that the lack of experience at this level of the competition could be a disadvantage for African “World Cup Finalists.” He said that only will and determination joined to talent could make a difference like Senegal at the last world cup. He also noted that the “chaotic” course of most of these “world cup finalists” during the last African Cup of Nations (ACN)in Egypt is not also a shortcoming in itself.
Don`t judge from what you saw at the African Cup
“It is not because Togo and Angola were stranded in the ACN that they will not play a good world cup,” he noted. “ACN and World Cup are different competitions. Cameroon proved it in 1982 and 1990. We bungled our Can but at we well performed at World Cup,” he emphasised, adding that “all Africans should go to Germany to support our representatives. It is very good opportunity to us. If we stand out in Germany, we can have a sixth place in South Africa 2010. And in this case, we can hope to see at least an African team at semi-final,” former Monaco, Bastia, Saint-Etienne and Montpellier in France scorer optimised.
Tunisia, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Angola are the five African representatives in the next World Cup in Germany. Amongst them, only Tunisia and Ghana have already reached a world cup final stage.
