Volleyball: Buea in the Spotlight
14 teams are expected at the third playing day of the national championship.
The third playing day of the national elite volleyball championship will take place this weekend at the Molyko stadium, Buea, in the South West Province. Organised by the Cameroon Volleyball Federation (FECAVOLLEY), the competition will bring together 14 teams, seven for the men and seven for the ladies. The men’s teams are: Port Douala, FAP Yaounde, AES Sonel, CAMTEL Yaounde, Avenir Douala, YUC Yaounde and Buea University volleyball club. The ladies teams are AES Sonel Yaounde, INJS Yaounde, FAP Yaounde, Mendong Panthers, Buea University volleyball club, Trinity volleyball club of Yaounde, and YUC Yaounde.
Volleyball lovers in Buea and its environs will have another opportunity to discover new techniques in the sport. The idea of organising the national championship was adopted by FECAVOLLEY to vulgarise the sport in the country. This year’s national championship race appears tough as each team is determined to have its name written in the book of fame.
According to the general classification at the end of the second day of play, 2005 title holders, Port Douala, are leading the men’s table with 10 points. They are closely followed by FAP, 10 points and AES Sonel nine points. Separated by the skin of the teeth, the Armed Forces and Police team will be out to take back the top position they lost to the Douala team last season while Port Douala will be fighting hard to maintain the lead. A victory of any of the teams will propel them to the first position on the league table. In the ladies classification, the battle will be rife between AES Sonel and INJS. AES Sonel is leading with 11 points and INJS follows with 10 points. FAP Yaounde has eight points.
According to the official programme, the competition will begin as from 8:00am on Saturday and Sunday. All teams are expected to arrive at the venue of the competition at least one 1h 30 minutes before kick-off for the necessary formalities.
