Weah gets Lone Star call
George Weah, the former World and African Player of the Year, has been given an unexpected birthday present - an invite to re-join the Liberian national side.
The surprise move comes as the ex-Monaco, PSG and AC Milan star celebrates his 35th birthday in the United Arab Emirates, where he is currently plying his trade for Al Jazira.
The invitation was extended by National Team Director Kadala Kromah during a radio show in Monrovia.
Coach Kromah said in the spirit of reconciliation and harmony, Weah should return to the team and contribute his quota.
"I did not go to Mali and therefore I have no problem with Weah. He and the likes of Debbah could return to Monrovia today and join in the training for the match against Niger," he added.
Weah retired from international football at the end of this year`s African Nations Cup in Mali.
Kromah`s declaration comes amidst mounting public pressure and debate over the return of Weah and his colleagues to the national team.
It has been prompted by the Lone Star`s defeat to Guinea in their Nations Cup qualifier last month.
It is not known how Weah will respond but the striker has made no secret of a desire to be of use to the national side.
Kromah has also invited Kelvin Sebwe, Oliver Makor and Zizi Roberts, as part of efforts to "fully reconcile the national team."
Liberia play Niger in their next African Nations Cup qualifier later this month.
