Cameroon: German and French coaches top list for Lions job

After a consultative meeting grouping officials of
the Cameroon ministry of youth and sports and those of FECAFOOT last Friday, a list of twelve coaches was handed to Minister Bidoung Mpkatt for final decision.
The list dominated by Germans and French nation
als is made up of four coaches from Germany, four from France, two
Brazilians,one Bulgarian and one Swiss. But according to the
government official daily “Cameroon Tribune” though top football
administrators of FECAFOOT and MINJES continue to give the recruitment file a “top secret” tag, sources in Europe say German born Horst Koppel stands a better chance to pick-up the job. This is judging from the “ quality of contacts and seriousness of negotiations.
The fifty-three years old former international player is currently the manager of the Borussia Dortmund amateur and Junior teams. He had played professional and international football with VFB Stuttgart and Borussia Monchengladback. If finally confirmed by the September 1 deadline, Horst will visit Cameroon in the early days of September for finalisation of the contract.
It was agreed that bills of the new coach will be jointly
paid. The Cameroon football federation have already earmarked a financial package for the new trainer.
It should be noted that, it is not the first time that names of European and Asian coaches are been short-listed
for the hot-post of technical director of the Indomitable Lions.
