Anti-Doping Committee to Check Malpractice
A 16-member committee will complete Cameroon’s anti-doping strategies.
An ad-hoc committee to complete Cameroon’s Anti-doping strategies was installed yesterday in Yaounde by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Bidoung Mkpatt. The installation follows a ministerial decision of 14th April 2004 creating a national committee charged with the fight against doping in sports dubbed, OCALUDS.
Ahead of the official installation, several preparatory meetings were held in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in view of putting in place a national organisation for the fight against doping in sports, in conformity with the rules and regulations of the World Antidoping Agency (AMA). The 16- member committee is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and partner ministries, sports federations, coaches, athletes and resource persons. The committee will be led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Emile Djacba.
The ad-hoc committee has as main task ensuring that there is harmony between the World Antidoping Code and the national rules and propose solutions to any incongruities. The committee is also expected to elaborate a strategy centred on collaboration in order that the Ministry of Youth and Sports could confirm the ratification of the convention on doping and promote all research activities in the domain of the fight against doping, among others.
The Minister of Youth and Sports called on the committee members to put in place an efficient national antidoping programme based on information, education and research. The Minister said that the programme leads to the promotion of sports values and will permit the national sports movement to grow in the respect of the general principles and exigencies stated in the code. He also expressed the hope that through their sense of engagement and collaboration, Cameroon will be secured in this movement which is part of globalisation and will be able to contribute in the fight against doping.
