Desailly aims to coach Ghana
Marcel Desailly, the captain of France, says his goal is to coach Ghana when he retires from playing.
The centre-back, who plays at English Premiership side Chelsea and has been capped by France 103 times, was born in the Ghanian captial, Accra.
He told his club`s TV channel, Chelsea TV, that his ambition was to lead the West African`s national team when he quits.
"I have many projects in TV, in radio and other things, but my project at the beginning will be the national team coach of Ghana," he said.
"I would like to give back all the experience that I have. I am sitting the diploma to become a manager but I will rest a bit for a few years when I finish because soccer takes a lot out of you."
Ghana are a team that have slumped in recent years from being one of Africa`s great sides.
The Black Stars have won the African Nations Cup a record four times, but the last time was back in 1982.
One of the country`s biggest regrets is never having qualified for the World Cup, and if Desailly could acheive that with the team he would become an instant legend.
One of the French captain`s biggest strengths could be his credibility with the players and the FA.
Ghana have suffered in recent years because of indiscipline and disputes between players and officials.
Top names like Sammy Kuffour and Alex Nyarko have refused to play for their country because of rows over money and conditions.
Despite having at last appointed a new coach, Burkhard Zeise, after months of procrastination, there is little to suggest that Ghana are on the up.
Desailly would have a tough job on his hands, but if he ever got the job it would be welcomed by Ghanaian fans who have been deprived success for so long.
