No big movements on league table after day nine
Martin Etonge
Following a series of draws in the national division one football championship this weekend, there have been just a few movements on the league table.
Runners-up Coton Sport Garoua and Bamboutos Mbouda failed to take advantage of leaders PWD Bamenda’s home draw agianst Tonnerre Yaounde as they failed to win their games.
It was the first time PWD were forced to draw (1-1) at home. Tonnerre’s Jean Marc Etougou levelled both sides in the 18th minutes, barely eight minutes after Emmanuel Obi got the curtain raiser.
It was a similar situation in Mbouda where visiting Canon ran behind Bamboutos for the equaliser. While Canon failed to score again in the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde in their third game there this season, this time against Cintra.
Those situations mean PWD stay leaders with 19 points, one adrift of Coton Sport and Bamboutos and two more than Cintra who are fourth.
The exceptions to these were Union Douala and Unisport Bafang who respectively defeated Stade Bandjoun and Mount Cameroon Buea on identical 2-0 score.
With that win Union earned their 15th point and moved up two places to stand 5th. Unisport count 11 points and climb three places to be 9th.
Meantime, it was the first home win for Racing Bafoussam as they edged Caiman 1-0 to have 13 points and keep their league title dreams alive.
Contrary to the happiness of Racing, Union and Unisport, it was all sorry for Mount Cameroon who were in their fifth consecutive defeat. After the fourth defeat, club owner, Mr. Calvin Foinding moved to sacked head coach Alain Wabo, but the coach was saved by his players who vehemently opposed Mr. Foinding. With the happening of another defeat, observers think Wabo may have no defense any longer.
